Seven centuries of history for the viticulture of the Lessini Mountains are a milestone that strongly underlines how much man has always been attentive to the fate of the vineyard in this high hilly area, between the provinces of Verona and Vicenza in the Monti area. Lessini. Here the main vine is Durella, almost an exclusive variety of the area, descending from Durasena mentioned in the 1290 Costzza Statutes. It is a white grape variety with a winged and compact bunch. The name derives from the hardness or compactness of the skin and from the high total acidity that characterizes the wine, allowing a high longevityand excellent results with sparkling wine. Historical documents on the agriculture of the Lessini Mountains often highlight the phrase “Terra cum vineis”, a plot of land cultivated entirely with vines. In the period between the Middle Ages and the early nineteenth century, viticulture and enology in the provinces of Verona and Vicenza, and thus in the Apone and Agno-Chiampo areas, remained at the basic technical levels that had been determined. in the Middle Ages.
Born with Ministerial Decree 25/06/1987 (GU n. 6 of 09/01/1988), within the DOC denomination of origin “Lessini and Durello”, the international success achieved in recent decades by Durello wine, has led in 2009 the producers to apply for the recognition of “Lessini Durello” as an autonomous denomination, obtained by the Ministry with DPR 17/07/2001 GU 13/08/2001 in order to make the most of the peculiarities of this wine.

The producers of the denomination , together with the Consortium, have refined the technique of sparkling wine making of Lessini Durello obtaining a prestigious role in the context of Venetian sparkling wine.

Durella

White Grape

Info

The Durella grape, white berried, is grown in the Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Veneto regions.
The name Durella seems to derive from the high hardness and resistance of the grape to alterations. In the first decades of the twentieth century, the “durello” wine was vinified with maceration of the solid parts and therefore was acidulous, intensely colored and astringent, and was very suitable for increasing the acid content of other wines. Towards the sixties, the winemaking process was “in white”, obtaining a very pleasant product. Its characteristic palate and high acidity make it particularly suitable for sparkling wine.

Wine Characteristics

Durella gives a straw yellow colored wine, more or less intense, with a delicately fruity and characteristic aroma. In the mouth it is very fresh, with a dry and full-bodied flavor.

Garganega

Garganega

White Grape

Info

The white grape Garganega is grown in the regions of Abruzzo, Apulia, Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Sardinia, Umbria, Veneto.
Garganega is a very ancient vine, whose first official recognition seems to date back to 1200 in the famous treatise by Pietro de ‘Crescenzi in which we talk about Garganica, but it is certain that traces of this name and of the vine were there at least from the year 1000.
The municipality of Gambellara is the epicenter of an area with an ancient winemaking tradition in which the Garganega dominates to the point that it is also locally called “Gambellara”. It is also widespread in Puglia and Sicily, which in the latter region is cultivated under the name of “Grecanico Dorato”.

Wine Characteristics

From the Garganega grape a straw yellow colored wine is obtained, with a fairly intense, floral and fruity aroma. The taste is pleasantly balanced between freshness and softness, with a medium structure and a discreet taste-olfactory persistence.
