Dolcetto d’Acqui DOC Appellation
Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)
The DOC Dolcetto d’Acqui wine obtained the recognition of the Controlled Designation of Origin on 1 September 1972.
Territory
The geographical area dedicated to the production of the DOC Dolcetto d’Acqui wine extends over the hills of the Acqui Terme district, in the Alto Monferrato, in an adequately ventilated, bright and favorable territory for the fulfillment of all the vegetative-productive functions of the vineyards .
The Production Area of the DOC Dolcetto d’Acqui wine is located in:
– province of Alessandria and includes the territory of the municipalities of Acqui Terme, Alice Bel Colle, Ricaldone, Cassine, Strevi, Rivalta Bormida, Castelnuovo Bormida, Sezzadio, Terzo, Bistagno, Ponti, Castelletto d’Erro, Denice, Montechiaro, Spigno Monferrato, Cartosio , Ponzone, Morbello, Grognardo, Cavatore, Melazzo, Visone and Orsara Bormida.
Vinification and Aging
During the vinification phases, only loyal and constant oenological practices of the area are allowed, suitable to give the wines their particular quality characteristics.
The oenological practices of vinification of the DOC Dolcetto d’Acqui wine include, among other things, that:
– The maximum yield of grapes into DOC Dolcetto d’Acqui wine must not exceed 70%.
The Dolcetto d’Acqui DOC wine with the Superiore mention must be aged for at least 12 months.
– On the labels of each type of DOC Dolcetto d’Acqui wine it is mandatory to report the year of production of the grapes.
