Grechetto Grape
White Grape
The white grape Grechetto is grown in the regions of Abruzzo, Latium, Marche, Tuscany, Umbria.
Grechetto is a vine of possible Greek origin, (the name Grechetto perhaps expresses it clearly) like all the other vines that bear the name of Greco, brought to Southern Italy by the Greek colonists who once populated Magna Graecia.
Currently it is widespread mainly in the Todi area, but is constantly expanding in the rest of Umbria and in other areas of central Italy. Two different clones of this grape are grown in Umbria: Grechetto di Todi and Grechetto di Orvieto.
Characteristics of the wine
From the Grechetto grape, a straw yellow colored wine with greenish reflections is obtained (or golden yellow if aged in wood). On the nose it reveals aromas of bitter almond and hazelnut, evident minerality, fruity hints of pear, peach and exotic fruits, floral sensations of acacia, elderberry and hawthorn, notes of vanilla and toasted for wines aged in wood. In the mouth it is characterized by flavor and good acidity.
