Catarratto Bianco Comune Grape
White Grape
The white-berried Catarratto Bianco Comune grape is grown in the Sicily region.
Its origin is not known in detail. The Catarratto is one of the oldest white grape varieties present in Sicily. It is described by Cupani in 1696 and Pastena (1970) which identifies at least four varieties, distinguishable by the different shape of the clusters: common or Latin Catarratto, spargolo glossy Catarratto, serrato glossy Catarratto and very glossy or extra glossy Catarratto. The most cultivated among these is the Catarratto Bianco Lucido .
The vine is present throughout Sicily, with particular concentration in the province of Trapani.
Characteristics of the wine
From the Catarratto vine, a straw yellow colored wine with greenish reflections is generally obtained, the nose has floral scents complemented by a Mediterranean fruitiness. The structure is important but at the same time fresh and elegant.
