Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Grape

The black grape Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is grown in the regions of Apulia, Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Marche, Sardinia, Tuscany, Umbria, Veneto.
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is an ancient Friulian grape variety and owes its name to the particular red color of the peduncle during ripening. The Refoschi family appears numerous and only towards the end of the nineteenth century does it begin to show its differences with respect to the other components. During the eighties and nineties ISperViti of Conegliano Veneto undertook a series of ampelographic, isoenzymatic and molecular tests to shed light on the differences between the various Refoschi, also correlating them with other varieties.
The results first of all show that Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is distant from the other group of Refoschi, from which it can be deduced that the “real” Refosco is the one from Peduncolo Rosso while the others bear the name despite having nothing to do with it. . It can also be seen that Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is rather associated with a group of grape varieties which include Primitivo, Corvina, Piculit Neri and Pinot Nero.

Characteristics of the wine

From the Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso vine we obtain a wine with a deep ruby red color, with an intense and fruity aroma, with notes of morello cherry and wild berries. The great taste-olfactory persistence confirms a flavor arranged on a full, slightly tannic and bitter structure.
