Negro Amaro Grape
Black Grape
The Negro Amaro black grape variety is grown in the Basilicata, Molise and Puglia regions.
The Negro Amaro vine has unknown origins, but its name derives from the dialect expression “niuru maru” – from the black color of the skins and the bitter taste of the wine – later modified to Negro Amaro. Until a few years ago the wine obtained with Negro Amaro was mostly used as a blending wine for the less structured and less alcoholic wines of some northern regions, but nowadays, also thanks to the perseverance and passion of some producers, Negro Amaro is vinified for the production of excellent wines, especially in the rosé version.
Characteristics of the wine
From the Negro Amaro vine vinified in purity, a ruby red or cherry rosé wine is obtained, according to the vinification system used. The aroma is intense, vinous and fruity, with hints of small black berried fruits. Equipped with medium structure, the taste expresses an excellent balanced sensations, with just hinted tannins.
